Join our creative team and help us tell New York stories!

 

We are looking for volunteers with experience in the following areas, with a particular priority for Production and Fundraising  support. 

Social Media/Marketing Volunteer (P/T remote) 

 

Stoop Stories is a documentary storytelling project. Our mission is to connect, support, and celebrate our NYC neighbors, especially those hardest hit by the pandemic and systemic inequities.

Who we’re looking for: An organized, creative, proactive volunteer to help manage social media for our growing documentary project -- StoopStories.net (@Stoop.Stories). Share our stories, build our online community, and increase engagement. 

 

The ideal candidate has:

  • Passion for storytelling/photography/videography, and social justice

  • Interactive/Social Media/SEO experience

  • Experience working with collaborative content calendars, analytics and graphic tools (e.g. Adobe Spark, Canva, IG, etc.) OR willing to learn 

  • Proficiency hashtagging, posting and sharing content (features, stories, videos & polls) across social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Capacity to communicate in real-time with our NYC-based team

  • Familiar with documentary production not required, but a plus!

 

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Oversee content calendar for Stoop Stories’ social media platforms 

  • Design and implement new SM posting systems/schedulers (e.g. Hootsuite)

  • Interact with our community across social channels (e.g. respond to comments, DMs)

  • Help maintain databases and assets (e.g. DropBox, Google Drive)

  • Represent our brand and style guidelines on social media platforms  

  • Create social content, graphics and enticing programming as part of the editorial team 

  • Keep up-to-date with relevant news and relevant SM accounts

  • Work independently and set/meet realistic goals and deadlines

Editorial Volunteer (P/T remote)

Who we’re looking for: An organized, creative, proactive volunteer to join the Editorial team of our growing documentary project -- StoopStories.net (@Stoop.Stories). Are you a serious wordsmith with compassion and a good sense of humor? Help us bring our brand strategy to life, share NYC stories, and build community engagement.


 

The ideal candidate has:

  • Passion for writing/editing/storytelling

  • Marketing & Communications and/or Journalism background 

  • Brand Development & Messaging experience

  • Experience working with transcription services (e.g. Rev)

  • Proficient with Interactive/Social Media (e.g. Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter)

  • Familiarity with newsletter software (e.g, Mailchimp)

  • SEO experience (a bonus!)

  • Capacity to communicate in real-time with our NYC-based team

  • Work with Editorial Director to create thought-provoking, timely stories/social content

  • Help develop editorial programming calendar

  • Edit interviews and prep social media posts, tags and hashtags (within caption limits)

  • Assist with generating & distributing newsletters

  • Familiarity with documentary production a plus!

Fundraiser/Development Volunteer (P/T remote)

Who we’re looking for: An organized, creative, proactive volunteer to coordinate and help manage fundraising and grant writing for our growing documentary project -- StoopStories.net (@Stoop.Stories). Help create and execute a sustainable fundraising plan for Stoop Stories. 

 

The ideal candidate has:

  • Passion for and experience with fundraising

  • Experience with production budgeting and crowdfunding/internet campaigns (e.g. GoFundMe, Facebook) 

  • Familiarity navigating fundraising databases/libraries and websites (e.g. Candid, SIBL)

  • Previous experience with fiscal sponsorships (e.g. Fractured Atlas, NYFA) preferred

  • Appreciation for storytelling/photography/videography, and social justice

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Capacity to communicate in real-time with our NYC-based team

  • Some grant or proposal writing not required, but a plus

 

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Stoop Stories co-producers to develop and maintain a working budget

  • Research and apply for relevant grants and awards

  • Review and offer feedback and copy edits for proposal drafts

  • Help cultivate professional partnerships and collaborations

  • Work independently and set/meet realistic goals and deadlines

  • Assist on photo/video shoots around NYC and learn basic production skills and with upcoming children’s museum exhibit (optional)
